A new venue for us, and we performed to a capacity audience when we sang at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Eastwood Road North. Jan’s lift had not arrived so she hotfooted it from home on foot, recognising on the way that ‘just round the corner’ involved quite a number of corners with some big gaps in between.
There was energy and enthusiasm throughout the evening. The Our Lady of Lourdes School Choir certainly showed us some moves (yet again demonstrating that it really is possible to sing and move at the same time) and they joined in, as did the audience, with This Little Light/Amen.
We launched our Recruitment Campaign and despite one or two challenges Dave Smith and Sam Coley managed to show the PowerPoint presentation that we will be taking to interested groups. With recruitment in mind an audience member suggested to a young man in the audience that he would be an ideal new member, only to find that Second Tenor Vernon High already IS a member!
Yet again, a number of very positive and complimentary comments, and Father Jeff emailed us as follows:
“Dear Leigh Orpheus
Mayor’s Charities Concert at St Peter’s
Thank you very much for the excellent contribution of the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir at our concert on 6th March. The children were captivated by your soulful singing, and the look of joy on their faces, particularly during your performance of Saints, Amen and You Raise Me Up, said it all. Our thanks go to all in the choir and to your wonderful music team.
Your local reputation helped fill the seats with a sell-out crowd, and we thank you for helping to raise the profile of St Peter’s and to help support the Mayor’s Charities.
God bless
Fr Jeff Woolnough”
According to Leon the concert raised £1,209, plus an as-yet undisclosed amount from the bucket collection.
