On a dry, cold, late November night about 35 hardy souls from the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir gathered to sing in Elm Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex as part of the celebration to mark the switching on of the Christmas lights.
“So there we were a Merry Crew
Of Basses and some Tenors too
Dressed in Tops of sombre Hue
Entertaining the Locals – more than a few.”
The Choir sang a selection of Christmas medleys and other Christmas songs in unison. There was an enthusiastic audience in attendance throughout the performance. ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’ was ‘Top of the Pops’ for the many children present but ‘Mummy Kissing Santa Claus’ probably went over their heads.
Old LOMVC favourites such as ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘Siyahambe’, ‘Alleluia Madrigal’ and ‘Magnificent Men’ gave The Choir an opportunity to sing in four part harmony and these were also well received.
