The second concert of The Choir’s Autumn Tour was held at the Post Mill Centre in South Normanton, Derbyshire on 3rd November 2018. By contrast to the previous evening’s small, medieval church the Post Mill Centre is a spacious modern building. Some unscheduled drama and sound effects were added to the evening by the nearby firework display!
This evening LOMVC were guests of the impressive female choir The Sonara Singers directed by Liz Moulder. The Sonara Singers demonstrated their considerable talent with a programme of great variation. Their rendition of West Side Story’s America was accompanied by some entertaining theatre and their interpretation of Sing a Song of Sixpence charmed the audience.
The LOMVC programme included The Mansions of the Lord a (song about fallen soldiers), Rhythm of Life taken at great speed and Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
The choirs joined together to conclude each half of the concert singing Why We Sing and You Raise Me Up. As usual with these joint items there was the fun and challenge of getting two choirs on stage and putting on a performance having had only one brief opportunity to rehearse together. Musical Directors, Audience and choristers all enjoyed the experience and the resulting effect of the combined sound.
