Saxon Hall in Aviation Way Southend was a new venue for LOMVC. The concert was held on a Sunday afternoon 4th May 2025 with proceeds going to Southend and Essex Masonic Welfare Trust.
There was a near capacity audience, many of whom had enjoyed lunch in Saxon Hall's restaurants.
The first set had a musical show theme with "Anthem" from Chess and a selection from Les Misérables which included a solo by Ralph Faulkes.
Deputy Musical Director Dave Smith then performed his own composition which was a take on John Masefield's The Lonely Sea and the Sky.
The Choir's second set was a varied selection comprising "Love Shine a Light", McCartney's "Yesterday", The Righteous Brother's hit "Unchained Melody" and "You Raise me Up" a hit for West Life.
Choir and audience then joined in a rendition of "Amore", a song of special significance to The Welfare Trust.
The next set had more of a war theme reflecting the proximity of the day to the 80th anniversary of VE day. The moving "Mansions of the Lord", then a medley of World War One songs followed by Elvis Presley's "An American Trilogy".
Dave Smith picked up his guitar again to perform a love song of his own composition.
The Choir then sang the demanding medley "Back to the Sixties", several songs very familiar to most members of the audience.
In conclusion The Choir performed the Welsh hymn "Gwahoddiad".
The audience responded with warm and enthusiastic applause, as they had throughout the concert.
