For the final performance of their Autumn Tour LOMVC visited Lincoln Cathedral on 5th November 2018 for a lunch time concert in the Chapter House.
This circular building provides a unique acoustic which is very exciting for the choristers.
The Choir sang a selection from the tour repertoire selected by their Musical Director Janet Walker on the day. These included Calm is the Sea and three songs from the 1960s. As at most concerts The Choir sang Gwahoddiad, but this time with the “amens” ringing around the building. Three soloists had the opportunity to experience singing in the venue which particularly enhanced the deep bass of Harry Rowson.
It was a quiet day in the wonderful Lincoln Cathedral so the audience was not large, but as compere Eric Smith said “We would happily sing in this space even if there were no audience”. It was The Choir’s second visit, perhaps not the last.
The Choir then set off back to Essex, contented, but with tired voices after 4 days of consecutive concerts.
