50th Anniversary Concert “1968 and All That”

2018 was the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir.  This special concert was held at the Plaza Centre in Southend,Essex on 12th May 2018.

The concert was a “sell out” with extra chairs having to be added at the last minute.

There were many special guests including the choir’s President, Sir David Amess, Mayor of Southend on Sea Councillor Derek Jarvis and his wife, and the daughter and granddaughter of the Choir’s founder Gerwyn Parry.  His granddaughter Natalie Paris,  who is a singer with West End experience, entertained us with a selection of wonderful songs.

The Choir also had the pleasure of singing with and listening to the West Leigh Boys Choir.

Harrison Dolphin – winner of LOMVC 50th Anniversary Award to a Young Musician – was presented with a cheque for £1000, later in the concert performing with his Duo.

At the conclusion of the concert Southend’s Mayor, Councillor Derek Jarvis, who had not planned to say anything, congratulated the choir on both reaching it’s 50th year and on such a fine concert.
