Another Piano Push Shows Us Having Fun, Promotes Our Concerts and Starts a Recruitment Campaign.
1st December 2014
From Neil Frost
Ten of our trusty LOMVC members ventured out on the second Piano Push of the season, this one as part of Santa’s Parade through Southend High Street.
Darkness fell and we prepared for our departure:
The back of the piano had been expertly converted into an advertising space:
We were eventually underway, and with some careful manoeuvring to get in line we ‘pushed’ up the High Street. In fact our pushing was so efficient that we kept catching up with the float in front and had to pause – giving opportunities for Adam to play a quick piece of ragtime music. With banners front and back, and with the unusual sight of a piano being pushed up the High Street, the crowds either side waved furiously – for a few seconds we were the centre of everyone’s attention!
For many spectators it seemed it was a big event. Usefully, it also gave the opportunity to distribute flyers for our Christmas Concert and our latest recruitment flyer. Our willing volunteer (Gordon’s wife) gave out loads. Eventually we reached the top of the High Street and the main task was over.
But there was one small ‘extra’ we were happy to take part in – it was a young lady’s 16th Birthday and we were asked to sing to her! There can’t be many 16 year old young women who have had members of a male voice choir sing Happy Birthday to them outside a restaurant! Many thanks to our ten LOMVC members, to Adam for playing and to Karen for providing the piano, organising the promotional materials and getting the piano there and back.
