July 2024 and the LOMVC are at the Bandstand in Southend's Priory Park singing in the sunshine.
Singing outdoors is always challenging as the acoustics are very different to the usual indoor venues. However, the Choir managed to produce good performances of a range of items from their repertoire. Both musical director Jan Walker and accompanist Kay Duell had additional problems with the breeze either trying to blow their music from its stands or turning pages at the wrong moment. At various times Kay's partner David and LOMVC Concert Manager Neil had to lend a hand to keep the music in place, as can be seen below whilst Jan and Kay were playing one of their two duets.
Both halves of the concert included a piano duet and a solo song and guitar performance from Dave Smith.
Dave's performance continued the 1950's and 1960's themes which had formed part of the Choir's programme. His "Peggy Sue" went down especially well with the audience.
The good sized audience, seated in their folding chairs, were always appreciative and were still there at the end of the 90 minute concert.
