Lunchtime Concert at Chelmsford Cathedral

The Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir were invited to perform at Chelmsford Cathedral as one of a series of lunchtime concerts.

This is not the first time the choir have performed in this splendid venue and they were rewarded with a full house.

The atmosphere and acoustics of the cathedral along with a large and receptive audience resulted in a splendid concert. Supported by the woodwind quartet Whirlwind the Choir performed the following varied and exciting programme.

The Choir opened the concert performing three familiar favourites, followed by the first public performance of "Love Shine a Light" with each choir member holding up a candle at the appropriate points in the song. The first set concluded with "Flying Free" with the haunting flute accompaniment provided by Evan Davies of Whirlwind. This sounded really wonderful in the cathedral.

Whirlwind then delighted the audience with three short but highly entertaining pieces.

The choir followed this with their second set which was opened with "Praise my Soul" which seemed especially appropriate to this venue.

The concert concluded with "The Song of the Jolly Roger" with the Choir donning various items of pirate attire. This amused the audience and as with all the items performed received warm applause.
