St Nicholas’ Church Canvey
Saturday, 5th March 2016
It is a while since LOMVC performed at St Nicholas Church, Canvey so it was a pleasure to return to perform there. LOMVC has a special affinity with St Nicholas Church and with Rev David Tudor; we have performed there over 18 years and two of the shards in the stained glass windows at the back of the church have been donated by LOMVC. And we are always well looked after when we go to St Nicholas’ with the provision of a drink after we have done our sound check being especially appreciated.
Musical Director Janet Walker had put together a varied programme, aimed at bringing a fresh performance to the capacity audience. And it seemed LOMVC did not disappoint. We are constantly adding new music to our repertoire. ‘Sealed With A Kiss’ and ‘He Ain’t Heavy’ from the ‘Back to the 60s’ medley were rolled out for public performance for the first time and were appreciated by the audience, many of whom remembered the pieces from when they were first released.
The concert at St Nicholas’ gives an opportunities for soloists to perform. LOMVC were pleased that Harry Rowson and Martin Wood were prepared to sing two excellent solos, and St Nicholas’ Church were represented by three talented singers – two young ladies and the Rev David Tudor who always sings an impressive solo.
Compere Eric Smith guided the audience through the concert, with the choir cheerfully tolerating his mildly self-deprecating comments, and Rev David Tudor’s input is always entertaining. And one pleasant result of the choir’s performance – a profit of £600 for the church.
